Education initiatives are implemented with a concentration on student scholarships for undergraduates who cannot afford to pay university fees and in particular those who are from hardship and conflict areas. Students eligible for scholarships need to have achieved a score of at least 75% in the Sudanese Certificate examinations and present proof of acceptance by a Sudanese University.
In its sponsorships, Haggar Foundation gives special consideration to students with special needs mainly the mute, deaf and the blind. They are also provided with necessary tools such as hearing aids, tape recorders, special books, wheel chairs, walking sticks, etc.
Scholarships are provided for governmental, national universities and non profit making educational institutions rather than private ones. They are reviewed and evaluated on a yearly basis and are renewed for students based on merit and set standards in agreement with the university in question.
The Educational Policy of HF supports ‘positive discrimination’ targeting mainly:
Marginalised groups: students from areas in conflict
The elderly in the form of illiteracy programmes
Gender Sensitive
Haggar Foundation also supports the printing of educational books via specialised institutions.
The Foundation continuously seeks to develop its contribution by adopting new initiatives aimed at having a stronger impact in developing education in the Sudan. Examples of this would be:
> Supporting research institutions
> Microfinance
> Training of Teachers and Trainers
> Teaching Equipment
> Vocational training
